CCSE researchers selected for US Dept of Energy Genesis Mission

Five faculty affiliated with MIT’s Center for Computational Science & Engineering (CCSE) have been selected to lead or contribute to projects under the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Genesis Mission, DOE announced on July 23, 2026. The Genesis Mission is a new national initiative seeking “to build the world’s most powerful scientific platform” by bringing together researchers within “DOE National Labs, industry, academia, and more to harness AI for breakthroughs in energy dominancy, discovery science, and national security.”

The CCSE principal investigators (PIs), Laurent Demanet (CCSE Co-Director), Faez Ahmed, Martin Bazant, Ju Li and Haruko Wainwright, will lead research addressing critical challenges in a range of areas including rare earth element extraction, fracture modeling, compute-in-memory systems, rotating blade design, and water-energy security. The strong CCSE presence among MIT’s Genesis Mission projects emphasizes the center’s impact on AI-driven scientific discovery and computational innovation.
